Set up to help alleviate the overwhelming loneliness experienced by the elderly and teenagers, especially the housebound, Silver Robin has evolved and continues to do so and now has an active and practical role in connecting these age groups creating an intergenerational relationship to combat loneliness through a variety of projects.
An inter-generational project aimed at 12-14 year olds and older people. An opportunity for worthwhile friendships to form through sharing our hopes, fears, passions and possibilities together. Initially, facilitated through good old-fashioned letter-writing.
Once you have registered your interest with us, you will be sent a project pack for 20-30 people which includes; 2 sheets of Silver Robin note paper, 2 pre-stamped envelopes, return envelope and useful templates and guides to get the letter-writing process started! Each participant in the project will then send their first letter and a prepared envelope to someone of a different generation to theirs; whether this be a grandparent, family friend or neighbour. There is also an option to connect as a group and write letters collectively to another group within your community. We encourage you to involve your alumni associations and local care homes and Silver Robin are also happy to connect participants of the project with someone to share their letters with. Throughout the project, there will be different themes each month for you to focus your letter-writing around. If you would like to share a letter they have created with us, we would love to share it on our social media – take a picture of your letter and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org!
If you would like to register your interest in the project with us, please send us a reply email and we will be happy to set up a meeting to discuss your involvement in the project further or send you over a pack for you to get started
